Atrocities in the Congo

Please check out an article about the Congo recently published in the Economist. The article details the violence, particularly sexual violence that is currently taking place in Eastern Congo, a region that borders Uganda and Rwanda.

Educate!’s clubs in Uganda and its student leaders are helping kids who are affected by the conflict. By involving our students in education, community service, and politics they will be able to envision a Congo without crimes that physically and emotionally destroy lives. Our students have already started an Educate! club in Goma, the heart of violence and conflict in the Congo, and many aspire to return to the Congo to start NGOs and become political leaders.

Eric, what an eye opener. I knew of problems, but this is so graphic. It is hard to believe that people can do these things to other humans. It was our goal to eventually go into the DRC to make similar changes, but there needs to be some serious changes. Thanks for the awareness and really looking forward to getting together soon. Beth
